Vietnamese Boat People Museum Town Hall meeting is still ON

Dear everyone,

I hope this email finds you well.

Despite the confusing message from various emails and announcements about the eligibility of VCF Executive Committee, the Vietnamese Boat People Museum (VBPM) Townhall meeting on Nov 1, 2014 in Calgary (# 203, 1829 - 54 street SE Calgary, AB) will happen as planned.

If you find yourself wondering:
  • What is the Vietnamese Boat People Museum?
  • Where are we with the Boat People Project?
  • What is the present estimated costs to build the Vietnamese Boat People Museum?
  • How much money have we raised and how much more do we need?
  • Can the museum sustain in 5 10, 20 years from now and who and how to pay for it?
  • Should we obtain inputs from community members instead of just from a few representatives who may not represent the whole view of the grassroot community members?
  • Should we go ahead with this expensive project and too remote to common Viet people? Or should we establish a virtual museum online so that everybody can see from coast to coast to coast in Canada?
  • Wouldn't it be difficult for people to access the museum, as it's only in Ottawa - even Canadians don't travel to Ottawa that frequent?
  • How about posting all the documentations on a website so that everyone around the world can see it?
  • The Vietnamese Boat People Museum is for history.  Younger Vietnamese generations live for the future.  Why do we put so much effort and money in building something for the past while we could have focus on the future.
If you have donated to this project, if you have organized and raised fund for this project, even if you have never heard about the project but want to know it, this meeting is for you.

Please come and join us for an insightful information sharing and open discussion about the Vietnamese Boat People Museum.  Everyone is welcome.  Please click on this link Vietnamese Boat People Museum Town Hall Meeting to register.  Registration is not required but it would help us prepare for snacks and food.

If you cannot attend the town hall, please send your questions, thoughts, and inputs about the VBPM my way.  I will ensure to bring them up in the meeting.

Best regards,

Hien Tran
